A YouTube TV app update will let subscribers explore Views without interrupting the game they are watching. Views is YouTube’s collective name for information-based sports content, including key plays, stats, scores, and more.
The ability to view this information is already possible with YouTube TV. The subscriber can access key plays, team and player stats, scores, and even fantasy football information all within the smart TV and streaming player app. However, with the video player primarily designed to show full-screen content, accessing these additional features often obstructs what the viewer is watching, even if only partially.
That is what YouTube is now looking to improve on. In a new blog post, YouTube announced the rolling out of a ‘richer YouTube experience for TVs.’ This new experience mainly consists of the introduction of a new column that can display information while maintaining the full video feed in its own smaller window.
In the case of the main YouTube app on smart TVs, the new design makes it easier for YouTube users to read comments and video descriptions without interrupting the viewing experience.
Along with rolling out the new design to the main YouTube smart TV app over the next few weeks, YouTube confirmed that the same design will be coming to YouTube TV subscribers “in the next few days.”
When the new design does arrive for the YouTube TV app, subscribers will be able to make use of that second column to access and interact with Views, without obstructing their view of the game.
The blog post ends with a little bit of a teaser, as it goes on to explain that YouTube plans to continue testing how the new design can be extended to support other features, including “live chat, fantasy view, and multiview.”
