YouTube TV has confirmed its latest price increase taking the cost of its live TV plan up to $72.99 per month. The new price takes effect today for new subscribers while existing subscribers will see the price increase reflected on their bill sometime next month.
Up until now, the cost of a standard YouTube TV subscription was $64.99 per month, making it cheaper than DirecTV Stream, fuboTV, and Hulu Live TV. In fact, it had been almost three years since the last time YouTube TV increased the cost of its base live TV plan.
With the latest price increase, YouTube TV has confirmed that the minimum cost of its base live TV package has risen by $8 per month. It also now means that YouTube TV is more expensive than Hulu Live TV, even though it is still a cheaper live TV option than both DirecTV Stream and fuboTV.
Again, the higher price is already in effect for anyone attempting to sign up to YouTube TV today through the website. As for existing subscribers, they will be charged the higher monthly rate on or after April 18, 2023, depending on when their April bill is due to be paid.
In explaining the reason for the price increase, YouTube TV points to the rising costs of content as well as its continued efforts to invest in the quality of its service.
While it won’t be positive news for every YouTube TV subscriber, the service has also confirmed that it is simultaneously lowering the cost of its 4K add-on. Going forward, 4K Plus will be priced at $9.99 per month, down from its previous $19.99 monthly cost.
For those who had been considering signing up to YouTube TV, the service has recently been offering a $10 discount on each of the first three months. That deal is still live so it is currently possible to sign up to YouTube TV at $62.99 per month for the first three months.
