If you’re looking to save as much as possible on the cost of a new streaming player, it might be worth considering the new Google TV Full HD Streaming Device. The new player from Walmart costs just $14.88, and that’s not a sale price.
Earlier this year, Walmart launched the Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box. With the device priced under $20, it was hard to argue with the value on offer. Now, with the release of the even newer Google TV Full HD Streaming Device, consumers have an even cheaper option to consider.
The main difference with the Google TV Full HD Streaming Device is that it is not a 4K player, which makes it more similar to Google’s Chromecast with Google TV HD. However, with Google’s own HD streaming player typically costing $29.99, Walmart’s new Google TV Full HD Streaming Device can be picked up for less than half that price.
Another notable difference is in the design. The new $15 Streaming Device is a stick-based player, unlike the Streaming Box which utilized more of a box design. There are some other differences as well. For example, while the newer device comes with 1.5GB memory, the 4K version boasts 2GB. It also looks like the connectivity specs are not quite as rich as the 4K player.
Still, considering the new model also runs on Google TV, the general user experience should largely be identical to the more expensive device. Not to mention, very similar to other devices running on Google TV, including Google’s own Chromecast with Google TV lineup.
We reviewed the Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box earlier this year, and other than the cheaper build quality, we found it to be a good device for the money. We are now expecting the same from Walmart’s even cheaper Google TV Full HD Streaming Device.
