Xbox App Support Begins Rolling Out To Amazon Fire TV Devices

Microsoft’s Xbox TV app is now available to download on select Fire TV devices, unlocking access to a world of gaming on Amazon‘s streaming players. Considering 2020 and newer Samsung smart TVs were previously the only supported devices, Fire TV devices have now joined a fairly exclusive gaming club.

While Amazon and Microsoft previously confirmed that the app was coming in July, it remained unclear when during the month it would become available. Even though the app is now available, it should be noted that support only extends to the Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023) at the moment.

As a reminder, the Xbox Gaming app makes it possible for Fire TV users to access and play a variety of popular games, including Starfield, Fallout 4 and Forza Horizon 5, without the need for a separate gaming console. That said, a compatible Bluetooth controller is still required for gaming.

These games are not free either, as an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is required as well. For those with an existing subscription, they can simply download the app, sign in with their existing account details, and start streaming games.

For those currently not signed up to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a subscription costs $16.99 a month. Along with the option to sign up through the Xbox website, it should also now be possible to sign up directly through the new Fire TV app as well.

If not currently looking to spend on a gaming subscription, it might be worth noting that Fire TV Stick users can also play Fortnite for free through the app.
