In spite of only recently going on sale, Walmart’s new streaming player appears to be in the process of selling out. Of course, the fact that it only costs $20 is likely to be a pretty big reason why it is flying off store shelves.
The Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box first came to light a few weeks ago when it showed up on the Walmart website. This was then followed by stores starting to sell units to in-store buyers and this was then followed by the option to buy online earlier this week.
Although the option to buy online only became available less than 48 hours ago, many stores are already showing no stock through the website. That is, no stock for delivery and no stock for those that want to pick up in person from their local store.
To give you an example of what we’re seeing right now, of the eight stores that Walmart lists as near us, only one of them is listed as having the new streaming player in stock. This also means that we couldn’t order online at all, unless we chose that one store, and were willing to pick up (or we’re within distance for delivery from the store).
A few checks of other random ZIP codes in other locations generated very similar results. Essentially, one or two stores had stock while the majority of those nearby appeared to have already ran out.
Of course, this is going to be a miles-may-vary situation, so some homes may find they are still able to pick one up at their local Walmart, or at least at one of their nearby stores.
In terms of whether you should run out and grab one while you still can, that depends on what you need from a streaming player. We recently reviewed the Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box and found it to be worth the asking price, albeit not the best option for everyone.
