Viaplay has now confirmed it is closing down its U.S. streaming platform at the end of February. As a result, existing users only have a little over one month to continue using the service. It is expected that affected customers will soon receive an email confirming the closure and any changes to their subscription, if they haven’t already.

With the US platform shutting down at the end of next month, those that have directly signed up via the Viaplay website will lose access on February 29, 2024. Regardless of whether signed up on a monthly or annual basis, subscribers that have paid for beyond February will receive a refund for the remaining time.

If signed up via Apple or Roku (not including those signed up through the Roku Channel), subscribers will find that their subscription won’t renew as usual on January 29, 2024. Instead, subscribers will retain access to the service for 30 days from their last billing date (before Jan. 29), and will continue to be able to access their account in general up until February 29, 2024.

For those that have been following the developments, the shuttering of the platform shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Viaplay did confirm plans to shut down the U.S. platform in July 2023, less than six months after the Nordic streaming service first launched in the United States. A the time, however, the exact date the service would shut down remained unknown.

As it is only the streaming platform that is shutting down, and not the service in general, it will still be possible to watch Viaplay content if subscribed through select TV partners including Comcast, Roku, and Xumo. Likewise, it will still be possible to subscribe through these partner companies after the Feb. 29 deadline.
