Apple has now released the official and stable version of tvOS 17. Once updated to the latest operating system version, Apple TV player owners will be able to take advantage of all the latest features, upgrades, and enhancements.

When Apple first announced tvOS 17 was coming, one of the big headline features was the introduction of support for FaceTime. While this feature still requires an iPhone, it offers those invested in Apple’s ecosystem an additional way to chat with friends and family.

In fact, FaceTime support is what Apple has opted to focus on today when announcing the release of tvOS 17. According to Apple, “Apple TV 4K becomes an even more versatile living room device with the launch of FaceTime on tvOS 17 today, bringing new ways to connect with family and friends.”

FaceTime on Apple TV 4K takes advantage of Apple’s Continuity Camera, and Apple has confirmed that Continuity Camera-supported tvOS apps from Webex by Cisco and Zoom will also become available later this year.

Some of the other new features available to Apple TV player users after updating to tvOS 17 include a redesigned Control Center, a new Siri Remote locator, interactivity with Apple Music Sing and Continuity Camera, Memories as screen savers, and Enhance Dialogue.

As is always the case with tvOS updates, tvOS 17 will automatically roll out to eligible Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD devices, and owners should see a message on the device when the software update is available.

However, it is also possible to manually check for updates by opening the Settings app and navigating to System > Software Updates. Once in the updates section, click on Update Software to check for the tvOS 17 update.

If the update is available, click on Select Download and Install to begin downloading and applying the tvOS 17 upgrade.
