Apple has rolled out a tvOS 17.5.1 update to Apple TV players. While this is an even smaller update than the tvOS 17.5 update that rolled out earlier this month, and a significantly smaller one than the tvOS 17 update that rolled out last year, it does look to fix a deleted photos bug.

According to Apple, “This update addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted.”

Based on the changelog, it would seem as though the tvOS 17.5 update introduced the possibility of photos remaining in the system after being deleted. Specifically, the issue appears to be the result of a database problem rather than an issue with the photos themselves. Apple also seems to be suggesting this was more of a rare issue than a common problem.

Regardless of the frequency, it looks like the latest update fixes the issue, ensuring all photos are once again permanently deleted when deleted.

It is worth noting that this issue doesn’t just affect Apple TV players. Apple has also rolled out an iOS 17.5.1 update for iPhone and an iPadOS 17.5.1 update for iPad this week as well. Both of which include the exact same fix.

Other than the fix for reappearing deleted photos, the tvOS 17.5.1 update hasn’t been found to include any other notable improvements or upgrades yet.
