The Law&Crime Network is being acquired by Jellysmack, a startup primarily focused on using technology and data to help creators grow their online video businesses. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As fans of the network will know, Law & Crime is a one-stop shop for true crime-related programming, including live courtroom footage, high-profile criminal trials, celebrity justice, and more.

First reported by Axios and then confirmed in a blog post, Jellysmack is officially acquiring Law&Crime, the network founded in 2015 by legal analyst and TV host Dan Abrams. Jellysmack explains that this is the company’s “biggest move yet” and a “strategic acquisition” designed to diversify its digital content offerings and strengthen its YouTube portfolio.

Jellysmack also explained that, as part of the acquisition, the intention is to also expand Law&Crime’s production wing, Law&Crime Productions.

This acquisition aligns seamlessly with our mission to provide high-quality content that resonates with global audiences across platforms. Dan Abrams’ expertise and his network’s impressive track record in legal and true crime storytelling make it a perfect fit for Jellysmack and creates exciting new synergies and opportunities for our creators,” said Sean Atkins, Jellysmack President.

What is interesting about this deal is the meeting of the content and creator levels. According to Jellysmack, the company optimized and syndicated nearly 30,000 true crime videos across 182 creator partner pages and channels in 2023 alone. Which, again according to the company, collectively earned 11.2 billion views.

With Jellysmack already highly invested in the true crime space at the creator level, this acquisition suddenly means the company has gained access to a large trove of true crime content, including Law&Crime’s YouTube channel.
