The Starz streaming service will encounter a price increase next month that takes the cost of a paid subscription up to $9.99 a month. In addition to its own original programming, Starz also offers access to movies from the likes of Lionsgate, Sony, and Universal Studios.
While the current standard price of a Starz subscription is $8.99 per month, streamers can almost always find a deal to take advantage of. Right now, for example, you can sign up to Starz for just $5 per month for the first three months. If willing to sign up on a half-yearly or annual basis, there are often even bigger savings available.
For those simply paying the standard monthly rate, that’s due to go up in the next few weeks. Starz has now started sending out emails to existing subscribers to confirm the cost of subscription will increase from $8.99 to $9.99 per month starting from next month.
According to the emails, it looks like the date the price increase is due to take effect is June 26, 2023. However, as billing cycles vary between users, the exact date an existing subscriber will see their price increase depends on when their next billing cycle after June 26th begins.
In terms of why the price increase is happening, Starz says that the price adjustment is being made to ensure the streaming service is able to continue providing “the highest-quality content and viewing experience possible.”
For those that might now be considering signing up before the price increase kicks in, and especially at the cheaper $5/month promo rate, season 2 of Run the World premieres on Starz this Friday (May 26) while season 7 of Outlander premieres on June 16, 2023
Starz isn’t the only streaming service to confirm a price increase this week. On Monday, Paramount Plus announced a price increase was coming. Similar to the Starz increase, the Paramount Plus increase takes effect towards the end of June. It also applies to both Essential (with ads) and Premier (ad-free) subscribers.
