Star Trek: Picard Premiere Now Available to Stream for Free

Jean-Luc Picard

You can currently stream the first episode of Star Trek: Picard for free. The show only recently launched and has already gained positive reviews, although that is not surprising considering it marks the screen return of Jean-Luc Picard to the Star Trek universe.

The latest Star Trek series installment went live on January 23, 2020 and requires a CBS All Access subscription to watch. However, for the next week, consumers can actually watch the initial episode for free. CBS confirmed that up until February 5, 2020 the pilot episode of the show is available to stream directly through the CBS website.

With Star Trek: Picard being CBS All Access’ most high profile original show right now, the free episode is a good way for consumers to see if the show is right for them before having to pay for access. Of course, consumers can simply take advantage of the CBS All Access free trial to watch the initial episode although the free trial still requires the viewer to sign up, pick a plan and provide payment details.

In contrast, opting to watch the free episode vii the CBS website does not require any commitment to a subscription, or even registration on the site. Interested viewers only need to head over to the CBS website, click on the Star Trek: Picard link, and the free episode will immediately start playing, albeit with ads.

Those looking for an alternative (and easier) way to watch the first episode on devices without a browser, then it is also available to stream for free via the company’s YouTube channel.

A free taster to get you hooked

It is not surprising that CBS has opted to make the first episode free to everyone, considering episodes are being released on a weekly basis via the streaming service. By the time the free period ends, the show will have only aired two episodes with one of them being the pilot. Although the second episode is already live, new episodes launch every Thursday and therefore the third episode won’t go live until the day after the free access period has finished. CBS will be hoping the initial free offering will be enough to get viewers hooked and entice them to sign up to a CBS All Access subscription to keep up with the rest of the series as it unfolds.

For those who do, CBS All Access can be subscribed to via one of the two ways. The cheapest option is the ad-supported plan priced at $5.99 per month. The second option is the ad-free plan at $9.99 per month.
