Max will be adding live sports later this year and subscribers won’t be charged an additional fee for a limited time, according to a new report.

It is no secret that Warner Bros. Discovery has been planning to add sports to its Max streaming service. Along with sports, the company is also planning to increase the amount of news available to consumers on Max, something which is now scheduled to begin later this month with the launch of CNN on Max.

Now, it seems like we are getting more details about how Warner Bros. Discovery plans to implement sports. According to a new report by Bloomberg, which credits “people familiar with the matter” for the information, Max will begin adding live sports, including basketball, baseball and hockey, for free in the coming months.

As the reporte explains, the free live sports will only be free for a limited time, and as part of a plan to lure new customers to the streaming service.

Following this limited-time period, expected to end around February or March, subscribers will then need to start paying a premium to maintain access to the live sports on Max.

According to the report, the introduction of a charge for live sports might coincide with next year’s March Madness event.

At present, it still remains unclear how much more subscribers would be expected to pay for live sports. However, with the streaming service’s plans currently ranging between $9.99 and $19.99 a month, it seems likely that a sports upgrade would result in an even more expensive tier.

Still, if the higher price does offer consumers a way to watch their favorite live sports without a live TV package, including NBA, MLB, and NHL games, the sports tier could prove to be a popular option.
