Charter will soon begin offering Spectrum TV customers the option to upgrade their free Disney+ Basic subscription to an ad-free Premium subscription. Considering this is an upgrade, customers will need to pay an additional $6 to change their Disney+ tier from Basic to Premium.
Charter began providing Spectrum TV customers with free Disney+ in January of this year, a saving of $7.99 a month. Through the same deal with Disney, Spectrum TV customers also gained access to ESPN+ for free in March.
As part of the company’s Q2 2024 earnings call on Friday, Charter confirmed that the ability to pay an additional $6 to upgrade to Disney+ Premium will become available “later this quarter.”
In addition to the option to upgrade to Disney+ Premium, Charter also plans to make the Disney Duo Basic bundle available as another upgrade option. Basically, those not upgrading to Disney+ Premium can instead pay $2 more each month to get access to ad-supported Hulu, as well as ad-supported Disney+.
The $2 is the difference in price between a standalone Disney+ Basic subscription and the Disney Duo Basic bundle. By offering the option to add Hulu for $2, Charter is ensuring customers have the same options available to them at the same price.
However, while the Disney+ Premium add-on arrives this quarter, the Disney Duo Basic bundle add-on isn’t expected to become available to Spectrum TV customers before the fourth quarter of this year.
Thanks to a separate deal with TelevisaUnivision, Spectrum TV Select and Mi Plan Latino customers also recently gained the ability to redeem a free ViX Premium with Ads subscription, a saving of $4.99 a month.
