Sling TV ended the second quarter of 2024 with 2 million paid subscribers. The latest subscriber update confirms a slight increase on the previous quarter.
Technically, the increase is more of a recouping of subscribers. After closing out 2023 with 2.06 million subscribers, Sling TV dropped down to 1.92 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter of the year.
When factoring in the increase during the second quarter of the year, Sling TV is still down around 60,00 subscribers on the start of the year. Considering Sling TV closed out the second quarter of 2023 with 2 million subscribers, the live TV service saw no change on a year-over-year basis.
In terms of Dish TV, the live TV service ended the second quarter with 6.07 million subscribers, resulting in a decline on the 6.26 million subscribers reported for the first quarter, and a decline on the 6.9 million subscribers reported for the end of Q2 2023.
EchoStar reported 8.07 million Pay-TV subscribers overall, a decline of 104,000 in the second quarter, and a decline of around 830,000 on the 8.9 million pay-TV subscribers reported for the second quarter of last year.
“The EchoStar team continued to perform as planned in the second quarter of 2024. We directed efforts on aligning key business synergies and objectives, focusing on profitable customer acquisition and retention efforts, and making improvements in our go-to-market approach for Retail Wireless,” said Hamid Akhavan, president and CEO, EchoStar Corporation. “In addition, we are in constructive discussions to address necessary financing, working to strengthen our consumer offerings and value propositions, enhancing our state-of-the-art Open RAN network, and driving profitability across the enterprise.”
As a reminder, all Sling TV subscribers currently have access to Disney Jr., Disney XD and Nat Geo Wild for free throughout August as part of a month-long free preview.
