Sling TV has raised the price of its plans by $5 per month. This is the latest in a round of 2019 price increases with almost every major live TV streaming service having raised their prices this year. Some services have raised their prices more than once in 2019.
Sling TV is one of the oldest live TV streaming services considering it has been around since 2015. Since then, the Dish Network-owned service has maintained a healthy number of subscribers and one of the reasons for this was the price. For example, the Sling Blue plan was $25 at launch and has remained that price ever since. That is, until now.
Sling has confirmed the price of both Sling Orange and Sling Blue plans are increasing from $25 to $30 per month. Essentially, they are both getting a $5 price increase. In addition, the combined Sling and Blue plan is also increasing from its $40 per month to $45 per month with the same $5 increase added on top.
This price increase affects both new and existing subscribers. The prices changes are already live for new subscribers as of today. Existing subscribers can expect to see their prices increase on their next bill following January 22, 2020.
The last time Sling raised its prices was in June of 2018 when the cost of the Sling Orange plan increased from $20 to $25 per month.
Sling rounds out the 2019 price increases
Since launch, Sling TV has remained the live TV service with the highest number of subscribers. That was until recently when reports came through suggesting Hulu + Live TV has overtaken Sling on subscribers. However, Hulu also recently raised its prices with its increase taking the price from $45 per month to $55.
Prior to that price increase, other increases had taken effect with AT&T TV NOW, fuboTV, PlayStation Vue and YouTube TV all upping the cost in 2019. When it comes to AT&T TV NOW and Hulu + Live TV, both of these services have increased their prices twice in the past twelve months.
Even with the price increase now affecting Sling TV, the service still remains one of the most affordable options for live TV streaming shoppers. All of the other services mentioned have increased their prices to a minimum of $50 per month.
Although with some lighter options like WatchTV and Philo available for $20 or less per month, the increase to $30 per month now cements Sling TV as middle-ground option between the entry-level and premium live TV streaming services.
