Sling TV’s New App Rolling Out On Roku, Starting With Ultra

Sling TV new app

Sling TV’s new app experience is now in the process of rolling out to Roku device users, starting with the Roku Ultra. Sling announced the new app experience some time ago, and it has slowly been rolling out since. For example, yesterday the upgrade was confirmed to be available on all Fire TV devices, and now it is the turn of Roku.

Sling TV remains one of the more popular and affordable options for live TV streaming in the United States. However, the app has always left a lot to be desired and especially when compared to the app experiences offered by some of the other live TV services, albeit at a higher monthly price.

Regardless, Sling TV is now looking to offer new and existing subscribers an improved experience through its new app, with Roku Ultra users the latest to get their hands on it. Sling has confirmed that this is only the start of the Roku rollout, with other Roku models expected to receive their own app update in the coming weeks.

With the updated app experience installed, users can expect a number of fundamental changes to the way Sling TV looks and works. All of which results in what Sling argues is a “personalized, intuitive and beautiful design” that’s intended to make content discovery faster and easier.

Changes with Sling’s new app experience

The first and most obvious change Roku Ultra (or Fire TV) users can expect is a new home screen experience loaded with an updated navigation menu to make it quicker to access core areas, such as on demand, DVR, and the guide. Speaking of which, the live channel guide itself has also received an update with more options for filtering and sorting, as well as an easier ability to mark channels as favorites. Channel listings have also been updated as well, to make it easier to see what’s on now, later, and set up recordings.

Elsewhere, users can expect changes to the DVR section with a new dedicated tab that makes it easier to see and manage videos that have been recorded. Or take advantage of what Sling says is now a smarter search experience that looks to speed up results and finding new content to watch.
