Sling TV Crashing? Common App Issue Fixes Worth Trying

Sling TV app error

There can be a number of reasons why the Sling TV app is crashing, and without knowing the exact reason, it can be difficult to stop the issue from happening in the future. However, there are some generic checks that are worth performing to see if any of them fixes the problem.

Thanks to the lower price of a base subscription, Sling TV continues to be a popular option for streaming live TV channels over the internet. The live TV service is also available to download on a variety of platforms and devices, making it one that’s easy to access on a smart TV, streaming player, computer or mobile device. However, that’s not to say the experience will also be free of problems.

If experiencing an issue with the Sling TV app, one of the first things to consider is checking another app. Ideally, another video streaming app. If similar crashing, stalling or connection problems surface, then the issue is unlikely to be one that’s specific to the Sling TV app and possibly a problem with the device or the internet connection. In this situation, it may be worth checking the internet connection and restarting the router if needed, restarting the streaming device, or both.

Restarting and updating Sling TV app

If the user is only experiencing issues with the Sling TV app, then it is worth force closing the app and relaunching it again. How this is done varies greatly depending on the platform or device. For example, Apple TV users will need to launch the App-switcher to close an app, while on Android TV and Android mobile devices, users can force close the app by locating Sling TV in the Apps section of the settings

It might also be worth checking if there are any updates available. Newer versions of apps are routinely released and often include fixes for bugs, including performance-related issues. If an update for the app is available then it is worth updating the app to see if that fixes the problem. Similar to restarting the app, exactly how to update the Sling TV app will depend on the platform and device, although it is no different to how any other on the same device is updated.

Another option that might be worth considering is reinstalling the app. It is possible that deleting the app from the device and downloading a fresh version will fix the issue. The option to remove (uninstall) the app is usually available in the settings menu or on the app store where the app was originally downloading from. It is worth noting that this should be tried after force closing the app and checking for updates, as the user will most likely need to sign back in to the app again after it has been uninstalled and reinstalled.

Consider trying another device

Even if there are no issues with the streaming player, it is possible that the Sling TV app for that device might still be experiencing issues or bugs that have yet to be fixed. Due to different devices running on different operating systems, the Sling TV apps on different devices are slightly different and individuals may find they get a better and more reliable experience when using another device.

While this is not ideal, it can be a better option than continually dealing with streaming issues on the current device. Again, the Sling TV app is available to download on different devices, so households may find they already have another streaming device at home that can be used to watch Sling TV without having to worry about crashes or other performance issues.

If the problems remains after changing devices and using a different version of the app, once again the issue could be related to the internet, or even Sling TV itself. If the latter, then it might be worth just streaming live TV through the Sling TV website on the device. If that’s not possible, then it might be time to consider canceling Sling and trying an alternate live TV streaming service instead. While Sling TV is a more affordable option than many others, some individuals and households may find they get a better and more reliable experience with a different service.
