Sinclair Broadcast Group is launching The Nest, a new, free over-the-air national broadcast TV network. Following Sinclair’s controlling stake in Stadium in May, The Nest is designed to replace the sports network on broadcast stations across the country.
Sinclair describes The Nest as “a network that delivers your favorite home-improvement, true-crime, factual reality series, and celeb-family shows all in one place.” According to the announcement, the current plan is for the new network to go live on October 30, 2023.
In terms of programming, The Nest will offer access to daytime shows like Flipping Boston, Flipping San Diego, Sell This House, American Justice and Cold Case Files, while primetime viewers can expect access to a programming lineup that includes Growing up Gotti, Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour, Steven Segal: Lawman, Ice Road Truckers, Dog the Bounty Hunter and Wahlburgers.
“We’re excited to bring this breadth of hit library series to add another layer to The Stack, Sinclair’s portfolio of linear networks featuring Comet, CHARGE! and TBD. The Nest couples the power and growth of free-to-consumer, over-the-air distribution with great content that viewers love. We’re confident the combination will deliver a premium experience for audiences and a great environment for advertisers,” said Scott Ehrlich, Chief Innovation Officer, Sinclair, Inc.
Once live, Sinclair says that the network will be available in more than 50% of all US OTA television households. This rollout includes the major markets of New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas – Ft. Worth, Boston, San Francisco – Oakland – San Jose and Seattle-Tacoma.
As for areas not covered in the initial rollout, Sinclair says the plan is to add more affiliates in the coming months.
