Samsung says the Samsung TV Plus streaming service has experienced massive growth over the past year, with global viewership up more than 60%. Samsung also confirmed that a new product update 5.2 has started rolling out.

While free streaming services are all the rage today, Samsung TV Plus has actually been around for some time now. Since its original launch back in 2015, the service has continually expanded to offer more free channels and on-demand content.

According to Samsung’s latest announcement, Samsung TV Plus now offers access to more than 300 channels in the U.S. (and more than 2,400 channels globally), providing users with access to news, sports, entertainment, music, and more. Samsung also credits its content and device support expansion with resulting in a more than a 60% increase in year-over-year viewership globally in the last 12 months.

With phenomenal year over year growth and an ever-expanding premium lineup of family-friendly shows, music playlists, news, sports programming and more, Samsung TV Plus has a clear foothold in the FAST landscape,” said Salek Brodsky, SVP and GM, Samsung TV Plus.

Along with highlighting the growth, Samsung explained that a product update 5.2 is beginning to roll out today. According to the details, the latest version offers an enhanced content discovery experience, making it easier and faster for users to find content to watch.

This improved content discovery experience also specifically includes quicker access to kids and music programming. In terms of the kids programming, Samsung TV Plus homes should now find it is easier to access more than 20 family-safe channels, kids shows and on-demand movies.

As for music fans, the new update adds a dedicated music section where fans can access more than 200 playlists and 40+ channels from partners like Vevo, XITE and Stingray.

While Samsung TV Plus is easily accessible on Samsung smart TVs, the free streaming service can also be accessed on other Samsung devices and platforms, including select Galaxy mobile devices, smart monitors, and even the company’s line of Family Hub refrigerators.
