Philo has officially launched its new ‘Philo Core’ package today. Priced at $28 a month, Philo Core is $3 more than the price of the discontinued Philo Legacy plan. However, in return for that extra $3, Philo Core subscribers now get access to AMC+, unlocking access to content from AMC, IFC Films Unlimited, Shudder and Sundance Now.
Considering AMC+ costs a minimum of $5 a month, the new Core plan offers a saving of $2 compared to subscribing to the old base plan and AMC+ separately. For reference, the $5 a month price is for the ad-supported version of AMC+, the same version that’s now included with Philo Core.
For those that would prefer to watch AMC+ on-demand content without ads, Philo does offer the option to upgrade the included AMC+ subscription to ad-free for an additional $4 a month, taking the total up to $32 a month.
With the standalone ad-free AMC+ subscription priced at $8.99 a month, subscribers that upgrade are also saving around $2 a month, compared to paying separately for the old Philo plan and ad-free AMC+.
As a reminder, those that remain subscribed to the discontinued Philo Legacy package don’t automatically get access to AMC+. However, they also don’t have to pay the latest price increase either. As a result, existing subscribers that do want access to all of the new AMC+ content will need to manually upgrade to the new Philo Core package, increasing their monthly price to a minimum of $28.
The easiest way to upgrade to Philo Core is through the the Philo website. After logging in, navigate to the Account page and then upgrade through the new ‘Philo Core’ option. If considering switching to Philo Core, it is worth keeping in mind that there isn’t an option for subscribers to revert back to their current plan after upgrading.
