NBCUniversal has confirmed the premium version of its Peacock streaming service will be free to Android and Android TV users up until October 15, 2020. This extended trial should give owners of an Android device ample time to see if Peacock is the right streaming service for them.

Peacock is already available to select Comcast Xfinity customers and the service is due to officially launch nationwide on July 15. Once live, Peacock subscribers will gain access to up to 15,000 hours of streaming content, including popular shows from the NBCU archives, as well as movies from Universal Pictures.

NBCU has now confirmed that when the service does launch, it will immediately be available on Android mobile and Android TV devices. Furthermore, NBCU also announced that customers signing up through an Android mobile or Android TV device will be given a complimentary free trial that lasts until October 15, 2020. In addition, the announcement explained that the confirmed Google device support also extends to Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices as well.

NBCUniversal’s Content Distribution Chairman, Matt Bond, said:

As millions of our viewers have already seen the massive benefit of having Peacock available to them these past few months, we look forward to leveraging the unprecedented reach of Google’s platforms and devices, to provide Peacock to even more fans on July 15.

At launch, Peacock will be available in three different pricing tiers. The first is a free tier that provides limited access to content along with ads. The second tier is Peacock Premium which costs $4.99 per month. Similar to the free tier, Peacock Premium does include ads. However, unlike the free version, Peacock Premium provides unlimited access to the content available through the service. It is this tier that NBCU has now confirmed will be free to all Android and Android TV customers through October 15. The last and most expensive option costs $9.99 per month. Other than being totally ad-free, this tier is identical to the $4.99 Peacock Premium version.

Those who do opt to take advantage of the extended free trial should be aware that the subscription is activated through an Android in-app purchase and managed by the Google Play Store. Therefore, subscribers will need to ensure they cancel the in-app subscription before the trial comes to an end if they want to cancel without incurring any costs. Otherwise, the Peacock Premium subscription will be charged at the 4.99 per month rate, or $9.99 if upgraded to the ad-free option.

  1. I just signed up on my Chromebook and then Android TV. Neither gives me more than 7 free days of premium.
