Peacock on PS4: Download PlayStation 4 App & Start Streaming

The new Peacock TV streaming service is now available to download and install on Sony’s PlayStation 4. For those new to the service, or just looking to access it through their PS4 games console, here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Peacock launched in the US on July 15 and at the time, the device support was limited. While the PS4 was confirmed as a supported device before the launch, NBCUniversal indicated the app would take an additional few days to go live, with the expected PlayStation launch due to take place the week of July 20

However, the launch never happened as planned with the app going live on the PlayStation Store on July 21 only to be pulled again shortly afterwards. In the following days it became clear that the app had been experiencing some technical difficulties with NBCU and Sony working on fixing the issues. Eventually, the PS4 Peacock app became available on July 31.

How to download Peacock on PlayStation 4

The easiest way to download and install Peacock on a PlayStation 4 is directly through the games console itself.

The PS4 Peacock app can be located using the following navigation instructions.

1. Open the PlayStation Store from the main menu.
2. Scroll down and click “Apps”
3. Scroll down and select “All Apps”
4. Peacock will be one of the featured apps. If it isn’t immediately visible then scroll through the list or use the search function at the top of the screen
5. Once the app is located and selected, click “Download”

To send the Peacock app to a PS4 through the PlayStation Store website:

1. Visit the PlayStation Store website
2. Sign in if needed.
3. Search for “Peacock” or click here.
4. Select “Add to cart”
5. Click on “Show cart”
6. Select “Proceed to checkout”
7. Click on “Confirm Purchase”

Once the app has been purchased (for free) through the website, it can be accessed and download through the PS4.

How to find and install purchased Peacock app on PS4:

1. Turn on the PlayStation 4
2. Open the PlayStation Store
3. Scroll down to “Library”
4. Scroll down to “Purchased”
5. Select “Peacock” from the list
6. Click “Download”

Regardless of the route taken, the Peacock app will be downloaded and installed on the console. From then on it is just a matter of logging in with your Peacock credentials to start streaming the various movies and shows.

Those accessing Peacock for the first time through a PS4 can actually sign up and start streaming in the app. While some apps don’t allow this functionality (without visiting the website first), Peacock does. This is likely due to the fact that Peacock has a free tier and therefore, only an email address and password is needed to set up an account and start streaming.

Once the app launches, users can simply tap on the ‘start watching’ link and add an email address and password to set up a free Peacock subscription.

Alternatively, PlayStation 4 users can create a free or paid subscription through the Peacock website. Once set up, open the app on the PlayStation 4 and select the “Sign in” option in the top-right corner of the screen. Once the account credentials have been entered, the user will be able to access the level of content associated with the chosen Peacock subscription.

Choosing the right Peacock subscription for PS4 users

One of the main considerations when starting a Peacock subscription is the level of access the user wants. In total there are three subscription options to choose from:

• Peacock
• Peacock Premium
• Peacock Premium Plus

The first decision to make is whether you want to pay for a subscription. The standard Peacock subscription is free and the Peacock Premium plan costs $4.99 per month. The main difference between these two plans is that Peacock Premium provides access to all of the movies and shows available through the streaming service. In contrast, the standard Peacock plan only provides limited access to content, including live events.

Irrespective of whether the Peacock or Peacock Premium plan is chosen, both come with ads. Those looking for as much of an ad-free experience as possible will want to consider the Peacock Premium Plus plan.

At $9.99 per month, the Peacock Premium Plus plan is the most expensive Peacock subscription currently available. However, it is worth noting that besides the removal of ads, the actual selection of content does not differ between the $4.99 Peacock Premium and the $9.99 Peacock Premium Plus plans.

While the Peacock app on PlayStation 4 got off to a rocky start with a delayed launch, it is now available to download and install. Adding Peacock to a PS4 is fairly easy to do either directly on the games console or through the PlayStation Store website.

Once downloaded, PS4 owners can either start a free subscription via the PlayStation 4 app or pick from one of the paid plans that add more content and/or removes the ads.
