Paramount Plus added 9.9 million subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2022, taking the overall total to almost 56 million. The new additions were the most Paramount Plus has ever added in a single quarter.
The latest figures were released as part of Paramount Global’s Q4 2022 earnings which confirmed that the total number of global DTC subscribers rose to more than 77 million, after adding 10.8 million in the most recent quarter. In addition to Paramount Plus, the company’s global DTC total includes subscribers to BET+, Noggin, and Showtime.
After reporting 46 million at the end of the third quarter of 2022, Paramount Plus added almost 10 million more in the fourth quarter (PDF). However, Paramount Plus saw even more impressive gains when making comparisons to the year before.
In the final quarter of 2021, the streaming service added 7.3 million subscribers taking the total to 32.8 million. Over the last year, Paramount Plus has added roughly 23 million subscribers.
One of the reasons Paramount Plus believes it saw a massive uptick in new subscribers is the content the service added in the fourth quarter and 2022 in general. Most notably, the addition of popular titles like Top Gun: Maverick, 1923, Tulsa King and Smile.
Another reason Paramount Plus pointed to was the various new partnerships it has forged over the past year. For example, the partnership with Walmart which saw Paramount Plus added as a Walmart Plus benefit, and more recently, the partnership with Delta which saw integration of Paramount Plus content within the airline’s IFE system.
According to the earnings report, other companies that Paramount Plus struck or expanded partnerships with in 2022 included Sky, Canal+, Amazon and Roku.
Paramount Global also confirmed that Paramount Plus revenue grew to more than $800 million, a year-over-year increase of 81%.
