Paramount Plus Student Discount: How It Works & How Much You Save

Paramount+ discount

A Paramount Plus subscription costs a minimum of $4.99 per month, but students can save on the monthly price by verifying their student status and eligibility. Even at $4.99 per month, Paramount+ does offer good value thanks to the bringing together of multiple popular networks under one subscription. All of which makes a subscription even better value when additional discounts can be applied to an account.

For non-students, there are some additional ways to save on the cost of a subscription. For example, the service does routinely offer limited-time promotions that result in a lower monthly cost for a select number of months. Not to mention, there is also the option to save by bundling with other services. Even when there are no deals available, there is still the annual plan. While these yearly subscriptions do require the consumer to commit and pay for the year ahead, the cost works out to be around 16% cheaper than paying the monthly price for twelve months.

When it comes to students, the discount is even higher. Paramount Plus offers eligible students a 25% saving on the cost of the Essential plan. Considering this plan is priced at $4.99 per month, the discount brings the monthly cost down to around $3.75. However, it is worth noting this discount is specifically for the ad-supported plan. At present, Paramount+ doesn’t offer any student deals on the ad-free Premium plan. Once approved and signed up, the discount is good for four years and this is irrespective of whether the student remains a student for the full four years. After which, the subscription will automatically switch to a standard subscription, charged at the then-current standard monthly rate.

How the student discount works

To be able to take advantage of the Paramount+ student discount, the consumer will need to prove their student status. Paramount Plus uses a third-party service called SheerID to perform a verification check and this is the same company Discovery+ uses for its student discount. Those wanting to sign up at the cheaper rate will first need to head over to this page and fill in the required information. This includes providing the applicant’s first and last name, email address, date of birth and the university/school they are enrolled in. After entering the required details, simply click/tap on the “Verify” button.

The system will immediately attempt to verify the student’s status and eligibility. If the verification is successful, the student will be able to continue signing up to Paramount+ by adding payment details and finally activating their subscription. If it’s not successful, the student won’t be able to sign up at the discounted rate. In some cases, the student may be asked to provide more details and this will require the uploading of documents to prove their student status. These documents will need to confirm the applicant’s full name and school enrollment date in an accredited, Title IV higher education institution. Examples given include:

  • School ID card (with expiration date)
  • School transcript
  • School-issued document confirming first and last name, school, date of enrollment

Once the documents have been provided, the user will need to wait until they are reviewed and a decision is made. Unlike the initial verification check, this does not happen instantly, with Paramount+ explaining that it can take up to thirty minutes and that the applicant will be contacted with a decision via email.

It is worth noting that the student discount cannot be applied to an existing subscription, so this option is only available to those signing up. However, existing subscribers can cancel their Paramount Plus subscription and then sign up again as a student. For those canceling and then re-subscribing, there doesn’t seem to be any issues with using the same email address, although they may need to fully wait until the end of the previous subscription’s billing cycle.

Paramount+ student discount summary

Paramount+ does offer students a 25% discount on its Essential plan. This is the ‘with ads’ subscription and there is currently no way to save as a student on the Premium ad-free plan. The student discount is good for four years and automatically switches to the standard subscription price after the four years unless canceled. To receive the discount, the student will need to confirm their status by providing some personal information which is then processed by a third-party company.

The decision is usually instant, allowing the applicant to continue signing up at the cheaper monthly rate. However, some applicants may be asked to provide additional information to verify their eligibility by uploading documents that confirm their full name, school, and enrollment date. Unlike the initial Paramount Plus student discount verification check, uploaded documents can take up to 30 minutes to be reviewed and approved.
