Paramount Global has now confirmed that its ad-supported tier will launch in Canada next month and this will be followed by a launch in Australia in June. Last year, Paramount launched its Premium tier in a handful of international countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico.
When the Basic (with ads) tier officially goes live in Canada, it will be priced at $6.99 CAD a month (or $124.99/year), and this compares to the $13.99 price of the Premium tier. Likewise, the Basic (with ads) tier will be priced at $6.99 AUD a month (or $124.99/year) when it goes live in Australia in June, offering a cheaper option than the existing $13.99 Premium plan.
As these are ad-supported tiers, subscribers can expect to see ads before and during content. While commercials will be included, subscribers will still get access to the bulk of the Paramount+ catalog, including all of the service’s original programming and exclusives.
“As we launch ‘Basic (with ads)’ in our international markets, we can also offer our incredible content at an even more competitive price to ultimately increase our reach and expand our advertising offerings to partners. The ‘Basic’ tier allows us to continue to lead on value by providing consumers an even more affordable entertainment choice for the entire family,” said Marco Nobili, EVP and International General Manager of Paramount+.
In addition to ad breaks, Basic (with ads) subscribers in Canada and Australia will be limited to just one stream at a time and a maximum resolution of full HD. This compares to the two streams and full HD included with the Standard plan, and the four streams along with support for 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos included with the Premium plan.
Paramount has also confirmed availability of its Premium plan is now expanding to Europe. This will begin with the launch of the €10.99/month (or €97.99/year) Premium tier in France this month. Subscribers to the Premium plan will get access to additional features, including support for 4K UHD, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, as well as the ability to stream on twice as many devices (four) at the same time as the existing €7.99/month Standard plan.
