NVIDIA SHIELD TV Updated with Plenty of Fixes, New Remote Support

Nvidia SHIELD TV updates

Older NVIDIA SHIELD TV devices are now getting a new update. This latest update comes with fixes and improvements to the experience as a whole, as well as support for the new remote, and more.

The 2015 and 2017 NVIDIA SHIELD TV devices have now been superseded by the all-new NVIDIA SHIELD TV with its equally new SHIELD Remote. However, NVIDIA has already proven itself as a company that’s actively keen to support older models long after their release. While new features often take a little longer to come through to the older models, they still do come through. This is the case with the latest update which not only adds a couple of new supports users have been waiting for, but also plenty of fixes and improvements.

NVIDIA has confirmed the SHIELD Experience 8.0.2 update is now rolling out to both the 2015 and 2017 SHIELD TVs. As to be expected, the update comes with numerous fixes to the SHIELD experience, including one for owners of Vizio TVs who might have been encountering an audio issue when streaming through Vudu or Movies Anywhere. Likewise, there are fixes for those encountering a Match Color Space issue on select TVs, as well as a fix for when users enable the SHIELD LED pulse feature only to find it is not working.

In fact, the fixes and improvements list is fairly long so if you are looking for a specific fix, check the list here.

Update also adds support for new SHIELD Remote

Today, NVIDIA finally put its new SHIELD Remote up for sale separately to the main Android TV device. This is important for owners of older models as it now allows them to upgrade their SHIELD experience without having to upgrade the entire device. Due to the new remote availability, this latest update also comes with added support for the remote. Therefore, if you do plan on buying the new remote you will want to have applied this update before starting to use the new remote.

Other new enhancements include the following:

  • Adds support for the new XBOX Elite 2 controller.
  • Adds support for Sanscrit USB DAC.
  • Channels DVR app can now store recorded content on NAS.

With the update now rolling out, some users might have already received it while others may have to wait a couple of days for it to arrive on their device. Those interested can manually check to see if the update can be pushed to their SHIELD TV unit by heading to the device’s settings, then to “Device preferences,” followed by “About,” “System upgrade,” and finally tapping on “Check for upgrade.”
