Not Every YouTube TV Subscriber Ends Up Paying More After Latest Price Increase

YouTube TV has increased the price of its base plan for the first time in almost three years. While the increase to $72.99 per month is bad news for most YouTube TV subscribers, there are some that are now likely to end up paying less each month for their live TV package.

Specifically, those subscribers that were paying full price for the 4K Plus add-on are now likely to see a lower monthly bill.

Up until the latest price increase, which takes effect today for new subscribers, the standard cost of the YouTube TV base plan was $64.99 per month. While YouTube TV has also routinely ran promotions which reduced the cost of its 4K Plus add-on for a limited time, the standard price of the add-on was $19.99 per month.

In other words, those paying for the base plan as well as the standard cost of the 4K Plus add-on were paying a minimum of $84.98 each month.

Along with the latest price increase, however, YouTube TV has also opted to reduce the cost of the 4K Plus add-on to $9.99 per month. The reduction in add-on price applies to both new and existing subscribers.

Again, if already getting a discount on 4K Plus, then the price increase results in a price increase. However, for those that were paying $19.99 per month for 4K Plus, they are going to see a $10 decrease in the cost of the add-on.

Even when factoring in the base plan price increase, they are still a couple of dollars better off each month. Their new base price will be $72.99 while the add-on will add another $9.99 resulting in a total of $82.98 each month.

Old priceNew price
Base plan$64.99$72.99
4K Plus$19.99$9.99
Total$84.98$82.98

Granted, it remains to be seen just how many of YouTube TV’s five million subscribers are signed up to 4K Plus, let alone how many of them are actually paying full price for the add-on. After all, YouTube TV is unlikely to have reduced the cost of the add-on if it was popular.

Still, some are almost certainly paying the full price for the add-on, and they are now actually going to pay less each month for their YouTube TV package.
