A new streaming service, Prevo, has launched today, offering access to independent and student films. In addition to the selection of titles available at launch, Prevo says it plans to add around 20 new independent and student films each week.

For those interested in checking the new streaming service out, a subscription costs $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year, following a seven-day free trial. As there are no other tiers available right now, all subscribers automatically receive ad-free access to the entire library.

According to the company, the streaming service launched as a way for films, in particular, student films, to continue to have a place to be seen after festival runs. The platform also allows filmmakers to submit their own film for consideration on the platform.

Prevo subscribers are also able to vote for their favorite films each month, with the winners receiving rewards. Its launch competition, for example, runs through September 30, with the winner of the “Best Picture” category set to receive $5,000.

As is often the case with new streaming services, device support appears to be a little limited right now. Other than accessing the service through the Prevo website, an app is only available to download through the App Store and Google Play Store.

Even on supported platforms, device support might still be an issue for some homes. At present, the Google Play Store app only supports Android mobile devices, providing no support for Android TV or Google TV streaming players and smart TVs.

Likewise, the App Store app only currently supports iPhone and iPad, with no support for Apple TV players available.
