It would seem that the rumored ‘Google TV Streamer‘ will be an expensive upgrade, and purchase in general. While the price isn’t likely to cost quite as much as an Apple TV 4K player or Nvidia Shield TV, the new streaming device could cost around twice as much as the current 4K model.

Specifically, the cost of the Google TV player in France could be as high as €119.99, according to a report by Dealabs. Considering the Chromecast with Google TV 4K costs €69.99 in France, the new model would be significantly more expensive.

While it remains unclear how much it would cost in the United States, the Chromecast with Google TV 4K costs $49.99. With a similar pricing strategy in use, it would be expected that the new player could launch at or around $99.99, putting it in the same price bracket as Amazon’s Fire TV Cube and the Roku Ultra.

Although high, the suggested price wouldn’t be a surprise. The new player is expected to utilize a completely new design by doing away with the dongle form factor in favor of more of a traditional set-top box shape. The larger size would also seem to suggest that the new model will be a more premium device in general.

The report also suggests the new model will be called ‘Google TV Streamer 4K‘ which is slightly different to the ‘Google TV Streamer‘ name first reported by 9to5Google. Regardless of the exact name, the latest report suggests the new streaming player could launch as soon as tomorrow (Aug. 6).

If it doesn’t launch tomorrow, the report expects that it will be announced no later than Aug. 13 (when Google is due to host its latest Made by Google event), and become available to buy on September 24, 2024.
