New Dish TV subscriptions now come with Netflix at no additional cost. The free Netflix subscription lasts for two years and is only available when signing up for a new two-year commitment.
Technically, Dish is offering access to Netflix’s Standard with ads plan through a $6.99 a month bill credit which offsets the total monthly cost. As this is a bill credit, Dish is also offering the option to pay the difference and upgrade to one of the more expensive Netflix tiers.
For example, if wanting to upgrade to the Standard plan (normally $15.49) to remove the ads, the $6.99 bill credit takes the cost of the Standard plan down to $8.50 a month. Likewise, if wanting to upgrade to the Premium plan for 4K and additional streams (normally $22.99), the $6.99 bill credit takes the cost down to $16 a month.
“We’re committed to enhancing our customers’ viewing experience by offering them the best content in the most convenient way possible. Our new Dish and Netflix bundle is a testament to that commitment,” said Gary Schanman, executive vice president and group president, Dish Video Services.
If already signed up for Dish TV, the company has confirmed that for a limited time existing subscribers have the option to sign up for a new two-year commitment and get Netflix included for free with their plan.
The free Netflix offer is one of the latest examples of a traditional internet and TV provider offering free or discounted access to a streaming service. Earlier today, for example, Verizon announced a new myHome package which bundles home internet with discounted streaming services and YouTube TV.
