Netflix has now released a new Netflix Game Controller app to the App Store. According to the description, the new app lets you play games on your TV.
Even though the app is now available to download, there is very little information currently available on Netflix Game Controller, including just how well supported the app will be at both the game and TV levels.
For now, the app listing simply states that support is “coming soon to Netflix” and that the “Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device.”
There’s only one screenshot accompanying the listing right now, and that basically only shows the expected layout of the controller on an iPhone or iPad screen.
For those considering downloading the app, iPhone and iPad devices will need to be running a minimum of iOS 15.0. It should also be noted that the app isn’t expected to be able to do much before the feature is officially launched.
While Netflix has been offering access to games since late 2021, the ability to play games has so far been reserved for mobile devices. Considering the number of Netflix subscribers, and homes that have Netflix downloaded on a TV, it makes a lot of sense for the company to port its gaming experience over to the TV.
For reference, it doesn’t look like an Android version of the Netflix Game Controller app has been released to the Play Store just yet. Whether that means this will first arrive as an iOS-only feature remains to be seen, but it is a possibility.
