The NBA and the WNBA have agreed a new multi-year streaming deal with Amazon Prime Video. There had been some speculation recently around what would happen with the NBA, with the choice seemingly boiling down to sticking with Warner Bros. Discovery or twisting with Amazon.
Now, however, we know that Prime Video will become the global streaming home of 66 regular-season NBA games beginning in 2025. The deal includes an opening-week doubleheader, a new Black Friday NBA game, the Emirates NBA cup, and the NBA Playoffs.
As part of its coverage, Prime Video will also present live NBA pregame, postgame, and halftime shows.
“The digital opportunities with Amazon align perfectly with the global interest in the NBA,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “And Prime Video’s massive subscriber base will dramatically expand our ability to reach our fans in new and innovative ways.”
Also, beginning in 2026 Prime Video will become the streaming home of 30 WNBA regular-season games each season worldwide, including the Championship Game of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. This is also in addition to exclusive WNBA postseason games, including one first-round series each year, seven Semifinal series, and three WNBA Finals.
In total the new agreements cover eleven years, beginning with the 2025-26 NBA season.
Another interesting element of the agreements is that Prime Video Channels will become the “global channels store destination” for the NBA League Pass and WNBA League Pass subscription services.
In its own announcements, the NBA and WNBA also confirmed a renewed of their agreements with The Walt Disney Company. The NBA deal ensures Disney retains the rights to NBA Finals, Christmas Day, ESPN games on Wednesdays, NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC and NBA Sunday Showcase packages. The WNBA deal confirmed Disney will broadcast WNBA games on ABC, ESPN/ESPN2 and its upcoming ESPN streaming service.
As part of the same NBA agreement, NBCUniversal will host up to 100 national regular season NBA games per season, across NBC and Peacock. Thanks to its new agreement with the WNBA, NBCU will distribute its share of WNBA games on NBC, USA Network and/or Peacock.
“Our new global media agreements with Disney, NBCUniversal and Amazon will maximize the reach and accessibility of NBA games for fans in the United States and around the world,” said Silver. “These partners will distribute our content across a wide range of platforms and help transform the fan experience over the next decade.”
