Along with announcing a new name and new shows, Warner Bros. Discovery also confirmed that the new Max streaming service will feature a number of app improvements. One of which will be a better download experience than what’s currently offered with HBO Max.
Max is the new name for the existing HBO Max streaming service, which is due to be replaced on May 23rd. The existing HBO Max apps will automatically be updated on May 23 with the new Max version. Along with those updates, comes some new features and improvements.
The existing HBO Max app has offered the option to download videos for some time now. That is, the ability to download videos is available to those signed up to the premium ad-free plan, and for those that it works for. Here at Streaming Better, we have routinely heard from HBO Max subscribers that have struggled to use the download feature in the past.
So much so, in fact, that we previously added a disclaimer to the top of our HBO Max Downloads how-to article, explaining that some users may encounter issues, or be unable to download videos, on certain devices.
This appears to be something that Warner Bros. Discovery has also been aware of, as during today’s press event for Max, the company not only confirmed that the new app would also support downloads, but offer a better download experience in general.
When covering the new app design and features, JB Perrette, President & CEO of Discovery Streaming & International, specifically stated that the company rebuilt the downloads feature to ensure it is ‘dependable and works consistently.’
These comments are particularly noteworthy as dependability and consistency have been two of the common complaints we’ve heard from users. Instances where they can’t access their downloads at a given time, or, in many cases, cannot access them at all on a particular device.
For those users, the suggestion that Max will offer a consistently more reliable download experience is likely to be good news.
