Looks Like You Might Have To Rent Or Buy Die Hard This Christmas

If you were planning to stream Die Hard this Christmas, it currently looks like you’ll have to rent or buy the movie. While Die Hard was available to stream on Starz last Christmas, none of the streaming services appear to be carrying it this year.

One of the potential reasons why Die Hard isn’t available to stream with any of the main subscription services this year is that it has been re-released in theaters this week. Die Hard is available to watch on the big screen for a limited time starting today (Dec. 8) at AMC and Cinemark theatres.

For those that happen to be subscribed to a live TV package that includes MTV in its channel lineup, it is worth noting (and setting the DVR) that Die Hard is due to be shown on Sat. December 16 at 9 PM ET and Sun, December 17 at 6 PM ET.

Those with a live TV plan may also find that the movie is available to stream on-demand as part of their package. Hulu Live TV, for example, is currently showing the movie as available to stream on-demand, as well as available to record on MTV.

In contrast, while Philo is one of the cheapest options for a live TV plan which includes MTV, it is not currently showing Die Hard as available to watch on-demand. That said, Philo subscribers can still record the movie when it is shown live on MTV later this month.

For those without access to MTV, the only option at the moment is to rent or buy Die Hard from one of the various online video stores. In terms of the price, Apple TV, Google Play Store, and Vudu are all charging $3.99 to rent the movie while Amazon Prime Video has it available for $3.79.

If you’d rather buy the movie to ensure you don’t run into this issue at Christmas again, the price seems to vary between $9.99 and $14.99, depending on the online video store. As Die Hard is a Movies Anywhere title, once purchased through one Movies Anywhere supported store it should be available to stream through the others as well.

For those that don’t consider Die Hard to be a Christmas movie, the re-release in theaters in time for Christmas would seem to have ended that debate.
