Locast is now available in the Tri-Cities market that borders Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. The service has been continually expanding to new locations over time and appeared to be speeding up the rate of announcements in 2021, although this latest addition is the first one since March.

Locast offers free access to local live TV stations, making it a popular option. However, it’s limited in location support. Following the latest addition, Locast now operates in 32 locations in the United States. While it is to be expected other locations will be added in the future, it is never quite clear where will gain support next.

Locast has confirmed it is now serving residents in the Tri-Cities market that borders Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. Specifically, 700,000 residents living in 19 counties within the Tri-Cities area. The announcement explains that Locast was able to add the Tri-Cities market thanks to the help of Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, an electric utility company based in Bristol, Tennessee.

With Locast now live in the area, residents gain access to 27 local TV channels, including WCYB NBC 5, WEMT FOX 39, WJHL ABC/CBS 11, as well as DABL, CourtTV, the CW, and more.

Getting started with Locast

As Locast is delivered over the internet, there is no need for any specific hardware. Instead, consumers can simply download the app on their existing devices and stream local live TV stations over the internet. Locast currently supports a wide range of devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku. Once the app is downloaded, users can view a live TV guide showing what’s on now and tune in live to the 27 channels currently supported in the Tri-Cities market.

Although Locast is free, it offers an ‘uninterrupted version’ for those that donate to help it expand to new locations. Donations start at $5 and are billed monthly, making them similar to a subscription in general. For those that do not want to pay, they can still access Locast for free, but will likely encounter interruptions to the viewing experience.
