Locast is now available in Portland, Oregon, providing residents with a way to stream local live TV channels over the internet for free. The arrival in Portland comes only one week after Cleveland residents gained access to the streaming service, marking the second expansion in March alone.

Locast has taken its time in expanding. The service first launched in 2018 and has slowly arrived in new locations since then. However, in 2021, the pace has picked up a little. In this year alone, the service has gone live in Madison (Wisconsin), Charlotte (North Carolina), Orlando (Florida), Sacramento (California) and most recently, Cleveland.

Now Locast has confirmed it is also available to those living in Portland with the Oregon city representing the 31st location to gain support. According to the announcement, the latest location support opens up the service to an additional three million residents living in the Portland TV market, and covers 27 counties including Baker, Columbia, Jefferson, Sherman, Washington, and Yamhill. This is in addition to select Washington counties, such as Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Skamania, and Wahkiakum.

With Locast now living in Portland, residents can access 39 local TV channels for free over the internet, including KGW NBC 8, KPTV FOX 12, KATU ABC 2, and KOIN CBS 6. This is in addition to PBS, Telemundo, CourtTV, The CW, and HSN, among others.

Getting started with Locast in Portland

Due to the increasing difficulty of accessing local channels through a subscription service, Locast can be a good way to watch local news, sports, and weather coverage without having to worry about increasing costs or dropped channels. The service’s app is available to download on a variety of devices, including Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku.

While Locast is free, there is also a donation model in use for those wanting a totally interruption-free viewing experience. Although a donation is not required to access Locast, without one set up the user may occasionally see a message on the screen that temporarily interrupts a live stream. Donations start at $5 and are recurring payments, so anyone making a donation should expect to pay the same amount to Locast each month, unless they cancel the monthly payment.
