While LG is a company that’s known for thinking outside the box, the new LG StanbyME Go is very much the result of thinking inside the box. Essentially, this is a TV in a briefcase that you can take and use anywhere you like.
LG already offers a standard, if you can call it that, StanbyME, which is a 27-inch display with a stand. What makes it interesting is that the base contains hidden wheels, allowing the LG StanbyME to be rolled around and used in any space inside (or outside) the home.
LG’s StanbyME Go, however, takes the idea of a portable TV even further. Still boasting a 27-inch LED touchscreen, the LG StanbyME Go is housed in a briefcase. Thanks to the built-in battery and 20-watt speaker, LG markets the StanbyME Go as “the ideal travel companion for on-the-go entertainment.”
Similar to the original StanbyME, the StanbyME Go also comes with a stand, making it possible to tilt, rotate, raise or lower the screen while in landscape and portrait orientations. There’s also a table mode available, as and when needed.
The StanbyME comes running on LG’s webOS software, which is the same software in use on LG’s smart TVs. It also supports AirPlay, screen mirroring from iOS and Android devices, as well as pairing via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
For those looking for an easy way to change channels or search for content, StanbyME Go’s voice recognition functionality offers hands-free control.
“Content viewing is no longer confined to the living room or even the home, but until now, consumers have had to sacrifice screen size in favor of portability,” said David Park, LG’s Head of HE Product Marketing. “LG StanbyME Go makes the full-scale viewing experience travel-friendly and offers a versatile option for streaming, listening, remote working and more.”
In terms of availability and pricing, the new LG StanbyME Go will be available to buy later this month and will cost $999.99. For those that pre-order from LG.com before August 27th, LG says it will throw in an LG X BOOM 360 Bluetooth Speaker for free.
