iPhone and iPad users can now use AirPlay to stream to hotel room TVs in select IHG properties in the United States, Canada and Mexico, including Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites, and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

With AirPlay support now available, guests at any of these properties can easily connect their mobile device to the TV and wirelessly stream shows and movies from their favorite streaming services, including Apple TV+, to their TV.

In total, AirPlay support is now available at more than 60 hotels, including InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street, and Holiday Inn & Suites Ottawa Kanata. If interested in taking advantage of this new support on a future trip, the IHG website lists all 60 locations in North America that now offer in-room AirPlay support.

Once checked in to an IHG hotel, the user will need to scan a unique QR code on the TV to connect to the TV and the hotel’s Wi-Fi network. As each QR code is unique to each room, only guests in a room will be able to view the content on the TV. Likewise, the unique QR code also means that guests won’t have to worry about accidentally connecting to a TV in a different room. According to Apple, connections are automatically erased every time a guest checks out of the hotel.

When people travel, we know they want to take some of the comforts of home with them, whether that’s watching their favorite shows or finishing a movie they started,” Jolie Fleming, IHG Hotels & Resorts chief product and technology officer said in a statement.

The hotel TVs are actually LG smart TVs. Last year, LG confirmed that its new commercial TVs were coming with AirPlay support, making it possible for hotel guests to connect and share content from their iPhone or iPad in their hotel room. Today’s IHG announcement is one of the first examples of that support now available in the real world.

As the first hospitality company to integrate AirPlay, IHG Hotels & Resorts is leading the way in making the guest experience even more personalized, enabling guests to enjoy content smoothly and securely on their in-room TV. Whether guests are traveling for business or leisure, this offering will undoubtedly become a favorite feature, creating a home-away-from-home entertainment environment like never before,” Fleming added.
