Hulu Live TV finished the fourth fiscal (third calendar) quarter of the year with 4.6 million subscribers, which represents a healthy increase over the previous quarter. More importantly, it is an increase in general, following a decrease in the previous quarter.
Considering Hulu ended the second calendar quarter of 2023 with 4.3 million live TV subscribers, the live TV streaming service added around 300,000 in the past three months alone. This is not only an increase on the second calendar quarter, but also on the first calendar quarter of the year when Disney reported a total of 4.4 million subscribers.
In fact, it is also an increase on the previous years as well. Hulu ended the same quarter of 2022 with 4.4 million Live TV subscribers, resulting in a year-over-year increase of around 200,000.
Looking at the wider Hulu situation, the results weren’t as impressive. While Hulu ended the most recent quarter with 43.9 million SVOD (basic Hulu) subscribers, that is a decrease of around 100,000 when compared to the 44 million reported at the end of the previous quarter.
On a year-over-year basis, however, the number of basic Hulu subscribers increased 1.1 million from the 42.8 million reported at the end of the same quarter in 2022.
Overall, Disney reports a total of 48.5 million Hulu subscribers (basic + Live TV), and this resulted in an increase of 200,000 on the 48.3 million reported at the end of the previous quarter, as well as increase of around 1.3 million when compared to the 47.2 million subscribers reported at the end of the fourth fiscal (third calendar) quarter of 2022.
As a reminder, the cost of Hulu’s plans increased in recent weeks. On October 12, the price of the Hulu (No Ads) plan increased by $3 to $17.99 a month. At the same time, the price of the Hulu Live TV base package increased by $7 to $76.99 a month.
