The option to log out of Hulu on a smart TV can be found in the settings menu of the app. There can be a variety of reasons why a user might want to sign out of their Hulu account, including switching to a different account, or to sign up again with a new email address. Whatever the reason, here’s how to sign out of Hulu on a TV.
Hulu now offers two different subscription types with the ability for households to sign up to the basic Hulu service, or the more robust Hulu Live TV subscription with access to a number of live TV channels. Regardless of which type an individual or household is subscribed to, the same Hulu smart TV app is used.
Hulu is now available on a variety of devices and platforms, including smart TVs, streaming players, mobile devices, game consoles and more. However, accessing the service directly from the TV app remains one of the easiest options overall. Technically, there are two different Hulu apps available to install, with the age and model of the individual smart TV determining which of the two apps can be downloaded.
Logging out of Hulu
Regardless of whether using the older ‘classic’ or the newer ‘latest’ Hulu app, there can also be some variation in navigation between different smart TVs and devices. However, most users should be able to log out of the Hulu app on a smart TV in the same way.
How to log out on a smart TV:
- Open the Hulu app
- Select the Account icon (top right)
- Scroll down
- Select ‘Log out‘
- Click ‘Log out of Hulu‘
The ‘log out’ is typically located under the profile icon can on most devices, so this route should work whether accessing on a smart TV, streaming player or through the Hulu website. Once the user has logged out of their Hulu account, they will be redirected to the main Hulu log in screen. From here, the user can sign in using a different account or create a new one.
Alternate way to sign out of Hulu
If the user is unable to sign out of their Hulu account on a smart TV, there is another way. Essentially the user can clear the data for the app through the TV’s settings menu. By clearing the data, the user is telling the TV to delete all of the information the app holds on the device. Although this isn’t the ideal way to log out of the app, it can be useful when the traditional method is not working properly.
How to actually clear the data from the app will depend on the make of the TV and the operating system in use. While this also does mean that not all smart TV brands and operating systems will offer the option, most do. If the option is available on an individual TV, then it is typically found in the Apps section of the settings menu.
Once in this section of the settings, the user can navigate to the Hulu app and click on the option to ‘clear data’ for the app. As an example, here’s how to force the app to log the user out when using a smart TV powered by Google TV (Android TV).
- Click on profile icon (top right)
- Select Settings
- Scroll down
- Click on Apps
- Click on ‘See all apps‘
- Scroll down and click on Hulu
- Click on ‘Clear data‘
- Click “OK” to confirm.
It is worth keeping in mind that this will permanently delete all of the data associated with the Hulu app on the device, including accounts, settings and more. There is usually also a ‘clear cache’ option in the same section. While it is advisable to clear cache at the same time, only the ‘clear data’ option will actually log the user out of their account.
Log out of Hulu summary
Users can log out of the Hulu app on a smart TV by navigating to the “Log out of Hulu” option in the account section of the settings menu. Once logged out, the user will be directed to the login screen making it easy to sign in with a different account or create a new one.
In cases where the logging out process doesn’t work, or the option can’t be found in the app, users can sign out by clearing the data for the app in the smart TV’s settings menu. This option will delete all of the data for the app, including the automatic login when launching the app. In other words, once the data for the Hulu app on a smart TV has been cleared, the user will need to re-enter their account details to gain access to the service again.
