Hulu and YouTube TV are the latest to join forces with the Preserve Viewer Choice Coalition, an advocacy group dedicated to maintaining consumer choice and competition within the streaming industry.
The coalition was formed earlier this year in response to calls for rule changes to the way the FCC views and regulates online video providers and streaming platforms. When the Coalition first launched, it claimed support from a variety of media and streaming companies including ABC, CBS, FOX, Fubo, NBC, Roku, Telemundo, Univision, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Now, Hulu and YouTube TV have been added to that list after becoming members of the Preserve Viewer Choice Coalition. According to the Coalition, the newly added members further highlight the importance of preserving viewer choice and innovation in the streaming marketplace.
“Having Hulu and YouTube TV on board amplifies our message and reinforces our commitment to ensuring that consumers continue to enjoy a wealth of choices in the streaming era,” said Bryce Harlow, spokesperson for the Preserve Viewer Choice Coalition. “Their decision to join us is a testament to the momentum we’re building and the shared belief in the importance of a competitive streaming market devoid of burdensome regulations.”
The Preserve Viewer Choice Coalition launched soon after the launch of the Coalition for Local News.
While the Preserve Viewer Choice Coalition wants to avoid any rule changes to ensure the streaming market continues to unfold as it has over the past few years, the Coalition for Local News acts on behalf of local broadcast station owners and wants the FCC to revisit its rules, or lack thereof, around streaming.
Disney, along with the likes of Netflix, Paramount Plus, Peacock, and Max, are also members of the new Streaming Innovation Alliance, a trade group designed to offer greater collective power when dealing with new regulatory threats and issues.
