HBO Max and Discovery Plus finished the fourth quarter of 2022 with a combined total of 96.1 million subscribers. Although these two services still operate as separate services, Warner Bros. Discovery no longer provides separate subscriber numbers for each service.
At the end of the last quarter, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the number of combined subscribers totaled 95 million. As a result, approximately 1.1 million direct-to-consumer subscribers were added during the fourth quarter of last year. It also represents an increase of around 4 million when compared to the 92 million reported at the end of the second quarter of 2022.
Even though the company no longer provides separate numbers for each service, the latest earnings report (PDF) did specifically mention the re-launch of HBO Max on Prime Video Channels in December 2022 as a contributing factor to the new additions in the fourth quarter of the year.
Looking a little closer at the numbers, it would seem that most of the gains in the fourth quarter did come through the domestic market. While HBO Max and Discovery Plus finished the third quarter of 2022 with 53.6 million domestic subscribers, that number rose to 54.6 million at the end of the fourth quarter.
Elsewhere, HBO Max and Discovery Plus saw the number of international combined subscribers increase from 41.4 million to 41.5 million. Basically, the domestic market accounted for 1 million of the total 1.1 million reported.
Outside of HBO Max and Discovery Plus, Warner Bros. Discovery stated that TBS, TLC, and TNT were among the top-5 cable networks in Primetime for adults aged 25-54 during the fourth quarter of 2022.
