Google is in the process of dropping the ability for Android TV and Google TV device users to purchase TV episodes and seasons through Google TV. The change also affects the Google TV mobile app as well.

Going forward, Google now wants Android TV and Google TV users to purchase episodes and seasons through YouTube instead.

The change doesn’t just affect where episodes and seasons are purchased from, but also how they are accessed as well. According to a new help post explaining the change, “any TV shows purchased on YouTube after today will only be accessible through the YouTube app or on YouTube.”

According to Google, these changes are rolling out over the next few weeks, so it may take some time for users in certain locations to notice the difference.

For reference, this change doesn’t affect episodes and seasons that have already been purchased through Google TV. Older purchases will continue to be accessible through all of the same apps and services as before, along with purchases made through Google Play Movies & TV and YouTube.

To further explain this point, another recently updated Android TV help post confirms previously purchased titles will continue to be accessible through the Library section of the interface. In contrast, TV shows now purchased from YouTube are only accessible in the YouTube library.
