The number of fuboTV subscribers at the end of the third quarter of 2022 is expected to be in excess of 1.2 million. This is based on preliminary results, with fuboTV due to release its full third quarter results on November 4th, 2022.
fuboTV is only one of a number of live TV streaming services that consumers can now choose from. Leading the pack is Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV with four and five million subscribers, respectively. Although fuboTV still has some way to go before it is serving live TV channels to quite as many homes, it has slowly been increasing its subscriber base.
fuboTV now expects to have closed the third quarter of this year with more than 1,220,000 subscribers in North America. According to the latest guidance, this represents a 27% year-over-year increase. It is also better than the company previously expected, considering its prior guidance pointed to between 1,135,000 and 1,155,000 North American subscribers.
fuboTV closed the second quarter of this year with 947,000 subscribers, a decrease on the quarter before. Even though fuboTV had anticipated a decline in subscribers during Q2, the actual drop was larger than expected. All of which further highlights the now-expected level of growth in the third quarter to be all the more impressive.
It is worth noting that the 1.2 million specifically refers to paid subscribers. Although fuboTV offers a free trial, it doesn’t include those on a free trial in these figures. Therefore, the actual number of people that were using fuboTV at the end of the quarter is likely to be higher. The number is also only in relation to the US and Canada. fuboTV operates elsewhere in the world and expects the number of paid subscribers outside of North America to have reached 350,000 at the end of the last quarter.
Previously, fuboTV had said that it expected to close out 2022 with as many as 1.465-1.485 million subscribers. A number that it now seems on track to reach, if not exceed.
