fuboTV has struck a deal with Disney Media Networks that will see live and on demand content from ESPN and other Disney-related channels joining the live TV streaming service. This will fill a major gap in fuboTV’s channel lineup, and further cement the service as one of the best options for sports.
fuboTV has always leaned heavily on sports, making it one of the major selling points for the live TV streaming service over others. However, with the lack of a Disney distribution deal in place, the absence of ESPN was a major hurdle for sports fans who might have otherwise been considering giving fuboTV a try. That is now about to change.
fuboTV confirmed that it has agreed a deal with Disney Media Networks to bring a selection of channels to its lineup. While ESPN is the major talking point, it is only one of the channels that will be added. fuboTV did not specify exactly when the new channels will go live, but did say they will be available in the summer.
Disney channels coming to fuboTV include:
- ABC
- ABC News Live
- Disney Channel
- Disney Junior
- Disney XD
- Freeform
- ESPN
- ESPN2
- ESPN3
- FX
- FXX
- National Geographic
According to the announcement, all of the channels above will be available with the fubo Standard base package, as well as in-market SEC Network and ACC Network. In addition, subscribers to fuboTV’s more expensive plans will get access to ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, FXM, Fox Life, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, and BabyTV, as well as out-of-market SEC Network and ACC Network.
No mention of a fuboTV price rise
While many live TV streaming services have added channels over the years, these changes tend to either precede or follow a price increase. Whether that will be the case with fuboTV, currently remains to be seen. The company did not mention any change in price when announcing the new channel additions, but that’s not to say one is not being considered.
If fuboTV manages to avoid a price rise by absorbing the increased costs associated with the Disney deal, then it will suddenly make the live TV streaming service a more viable option in the eyes of many sports fans. A point not lost on fuboTV with the company’s co-founder and CEO, David Gandler, stating:
With the addition to our lineup of the ESPN suite of channels, we continue to make good on our promise to sports fans to be the undisputed home of professional and college sports. fubo is equally delighted to add the storied Disney, ABC, FX and Nat Geo networks to round out a robust programming portfolio for the whole family to enjoy
fuboTV
At present, the base fuboTV package costs $54.99 per month which makes it similar in price to AT&T TV NOW Plus, Hulu Live TV, and YouTube TV. Even if the new channel additions do result in a price increase, it still may make fuboTV a better option for those looking for a single service to access a wide range of sports channels and content.
