Fubo’s Fire TV and Android TV apps are now in the process of receiving a new update which looks to offer additional improvements in the Guide, My Stuff and video playback departments. Since Fubo starting rolling out its new app and design, it has been following up with a number of smaller updates to help refine the experience.
In the last couple of months, for example, Fubo rolled out an update to address UI issues introduced with a previous update, an update that adds back the ability to go back to a previous channel, and an update improving Guide and video player functionality.
According to a post by Fubo’s Chief Product Officer, Mike Berkley, another update is now rolling out with even more Guide, My Stuff (Recordings), and video playback improvements. The update is currently only rolling out to Fire TV, Android TV (and Google TV) apps, and arrives as version 5.6.
Here’s the full list of confirmed improvements included with the v5.6 app update for Fire TV, Android TV, and Google TV.
- The Guide
- Added thumbnail images for the currently playing program on every channel.
- Program titles now scroll as you navigate to the right in the guide.
- My Stuff / Recordings
- Added “Delete Recording” button for individual recordings (it was previously contained under the “Recording Options” menu). Note that this is also fixed in the Roku app now as well.
- Video Playback
- The subtitles (closed captioning) on/off setting will now persist across all channel changes and program changes.
- Fixed the bug where playback would sometimes now work when external speakers are attached to certain devices.
- Fixed the bug where, when paused, the playback progress bar would continue to move on some DVR recordings.
- Fixed the bug where sometimes ads keep looping when playing VOD.
- Fixed the bug where sometimes playback would not start on DRM protected channels.
- Fixed the bug where sometimes the LIVE TV carousel in the player would not disappear after you change channels.
- Fixed the bug where sometimes audio continues even after closing the exiting the app.
- Fixed the bug where channel Up/Down actions were reversed.
- Fixed the bug where “no internet connection” is displayed if you have a firewall installed and certain DNSs are blocked.
- Fixed a number of bugs that resulted in the app crashing.
While this update is only for Fire TV and Android TV (including Google TV) users, Berkley did confirm that a new and “significant” update is currently being readied for Roku devices. According to Berkley, the new Roku app is expected to start rolling out sometime next week.
If totally new to Fubo, the company is currently running a promotion which reduces the cost of each of the first two months by $20, resulting in a total saving of $40.
