Disney+ will begin testing live sports events this week, beginning tomorrow with two WNBA games. Earlier this month, Disney confirmed plans to add a new ESPN hub to the Disney+ app, similar to the Hulu hub which went live earlier this year.
At the time of confirming that a ESPN section was coming to Disney+, Disney also confirmed that it would begin testing the sports experience in Disney+ later this year, as a means to condition users to the change. That testing will begin tomorrow when, for the first time, the marquee Opening Night doubleheader will be available to watch on Disney+.
The action will begin at 4:30 p.m. (PDT) when Caitlin Clark makes her WNBA regular season debut for the Indiana Fever, who take on the Connecticut Sun. This will then be followed by the Phoenix Mercury vs Las Vegas Aces game at 7 p.m. (PDT).
As these games are being made available directly through Disney+, there is no need to pay for an additional subscription to watch them. Instead, both games will be available to stream live for all Disney+ subscribers. For those without a Disney+ subscription, both games will also be available to watch on ESPN2 and ESPN+.
Earlier this month, Disney also confirmed that it will soon be possible to bundle Disney+ with Hulu and Max, offering consumers a way to save on the monthly cost of all three streaming services.
