Disney+ is now available with Spectrum TV Select packages at no additional cost. In 2023, Charter and Disney entered into a dispute which left Spectrum customers without access to a selection of Disney-owned channels.
That dispute officially came to an end a few weeks later, and after the two companies managed to agree a new deal. As part of the deal, it was agreed that Spectrum TV customers would get Disney+ and ESPN+ for free.
Starting today, that change has officially taken effect with Disney+ now available in all Spectrum TV Select packages nationwide at no additional cost. As a result, Charter video customers can now access the Disney+ catalog on their Xumo Stream Box or any other Disney+ supported device.
“The inclusion of Disney+ alongside a curated lineup of our TV channels brings the best of both worlds from Disney’s unrivaled entertainment portfolio to Charter’s video customers,” said Justin Connolly, President, Platform Distribution, The Walt Disney Company. “Our goal has always been to meet consumers where they are, and these collective offerings will maximize value for Spectrum TV Select customers while simultaneously broadening the audience of our advertiser supported streaming services.”
To start streaming Disney+, Charter customers will first need to activate their new Disney+ subscription. This can be done by visiting the Spectrum website, logging in with a Spectrum.net account, and following the instructions. For those with an existing Disney+ subscription, the free Spectrum version won’t replace that subscription, which will continue to be managed separately by the user.
In other words, Charter customers will need to cancel their standalone Disney+ subscription if they enable their Spectrum version and don’t want to retain access to both.
Before making that decision, it is worth pointing out that Spectrum TV Select customers are only getting access to Disney+ Basic. Unlike the Premium tier, Disney+ Basic is an ad-supported plan, so Charter customers can expect to sit through ad breaks when watching content.
As mentioned, the deal between Charter and Disney also includes access to ESPN content as well. According to today’s announcement, complimentary ESPN+ access for Spectrum TV Select Plus customers is due to become available in the coming months.
