Home Alone and Other Popular Disney+ Movies Suddenly Disappear

Home Alone missing from Disney+

Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and a number of other movies have suddenly disappeared from Disney+.

The new streaming service only launched in November and one of its big selling points was the access to the wide selection of content at Disney’s disposable. However, it now looks like the selection of content is a little short in places.

Similar to other popular streaming services, Disney does routinely announce in advance when new content is coming to the Disney+. However, unlike those other services, Disney has yet to start confirming content that’s planned to leave the service. In fact, some subscribers might even be surprised to learn content is leaving Disney+ considering Disney owns all the content it makes available.

A Reddit user unhappy with the lack of information on what content would be leaving the service decided to self-monitor the Disney+ movie lineup over time and has now noticed some popular movie titles have already been removed.

Here’s the list of the known missing titles so far:

  • Dr. Dolittle
  • Flicka
  • Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
  • Home Alone
  • Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
  • Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers
  • Strange Magic
  • The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  • The Sandlot
  • The Shaggy Dog
  • The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration
  • White Wilderness

Even Disney is not exempt from licensing deals

Disney+ arrived on the scene with some force considering it attracted 10 million subscribers in its first 24 hours. Even more recently, analysts have increased their estimates, suggesting the Disney service is likely to have attracted in excess of 25 million subscribers by the end of the first quarter. However, in spite of its subscriber power, even Disney+ is not exempt from deals.

It is likely that the movies that have now disappeared were removed due to existing licensing agreements. Again, without any official word coming from Disney it remains to be seen if that is the case, or for how long the missing movies will remain unavailable for.

While it is common for content to come and go like this, the lack of communication from Disney is unlikely to sit well with subscribers. This is especially true for those who might have planned to watch any of these titles and were given no warning of their departure. In either case, considering Disney does own the movies, it is highly likely they will all return once the existing licensing deals have come to an end.
