Disney+ dropped down to 149.6 million subscribers at the end of 2023. In spite of a drop, it is only slightly down on the 150 million reported at the end of the previous quarter. When it comes to the Domestic market, however, the drop was a bit more substantial.

Disney reported the 149.6 million subscribers during its Q1 FY24 earnings results and this number includes domestic (U.S. and Canada), international, (excluding Disney+ Hotstar), and Disney+ Hotstar subscribers. Overall, this number was down 600,000 on the 150.2 million reported for the end of September.

When looking at the individual markets, the U.S. and Canada market ended 2023 with 46.1 million subscribers. Considering Disney reported 46.5 million for the end of September 2023, this is a decrease of around 400,000 over the past three months. On a year-over-year basis, a similar story unfolds. With Disney+ ending 2022 with 46.6 million subscribers, the service lost roughly 500,000 domestic subscribers over the past 12 months.

In terms of international subscribers, Disney+ ended December with 65.2 million resulting in a loss of around 900,000 on the 66.1 million reported at the end of the previous quarter. Unlike the domestic market, with 57.7 million reported at the end of 2022, the international market also saw a healthy year-over-year increase of around 7.5 million.

Disney+ Hotstar managed to register a quarter-over-quarter increase of around 700,000, helping to lower the overall subscriber losses for the quarter down to 600,000.
